Water supply

Aigües d’Altea

Aigües d’Altea runs the drinking water and waste water services for the municipality. Contracts are opened, transferred, read and billed here.

This is not a page of Altea Town Council. alteamar.es is a private site and not a public authority: we do not accept applications or advise on individual cases. Only information from the competent office is binding: altea.es ↗. Like a directory, we gather here what is otherwise spread across many websites: an overview, not instructions.

Pale, weathered wall with a roller door on the left and a plaque reading “Servicio Municipal de Aguas de Altea – Camí de l’Algar nº 6” with phone numbers. On the right, a rounded window with blinds and the “Aigües d’Altea” logo.

Good to know

No first-occupation licence, no permanent supply. For new build the water depends on the municipal licencia de primera ocupación — plan both together (art. 32, Law 3/2004). Where that licence is more than ten years old, the utility may require a licencia de segunda ocupación for a new contract, for example after a purchase (art. 33).

An unnoticed burst pipe can multiply a bill. After a documented burst pipe, ask about a rebate.

If you are away for a long period, close the stopcock but keep the contract.

Fees and charges

Water tariffs and the waste water charge are approved by the municipality and set out in the bylaws: altea.es → Ordenanzas fiscales. Current amounts are on your own bill.

Frequently asked questions

Is the tap water drinkable?

Tap water is subject to official monitoring (SINAC); ask the utility for analyses. The water is hard; some households use filters. Public fountains: Drinking fountains.

How often is it billed?

Periodically, by meter reading. Periods and tariffs are on the bill and are set by the municipality.

Who pays in a tenancy?

That is a matter for the tenancy agreement. The utility’s contracting party remains whoever is named on the contract.

What if a pipe bursts in the street?

Call Aigües d’Altea at once — the fault line, 963 86 06 38, is staffed around the clock. If nobody answers, the local police on 092 will help.
