Police and emergency services

Policía Local · Guardia Civil · Protección Civil

Three bodies with different jobs, plus the numbers you dial when it matters. Knowing whom to call saves minutes when minutes count.

This is not a page of Altea Town Council. alteamar.es is a private site and not a public authority: we do not accept applications or advise on individual cases. Only information from the competent office is binding: policia.es ↗. Like a directory, we gather here what is otherwise spread across many websites: an overview, not instructions.

Good to know

112 is the only number you have to know by heart. It is free from any phone (Royal Decree 903/1997), and the regional control room also takes calls in English, French and German (according to 112 CV).

Simple cases can be reported online: with the Guardia Civil through its Sede Electrónica, using an electronic signature and with no follow-up signature needed; with the national police (Oficina Virtual de Denuncias), followed by signing at a police station — ask there about the deadline.

Civil protection here means the municipality’s Agrupació de Voluntaris. It replaces neither the police nor the ambulance service, but it is the most visible part of emergency cover at fiestas, on the beaches and during storms.

Frequently asked questions

092 or 112 — which is right?

For danger to life or health, always 112. 092 goes straight to the local police and is quicker for municipal matters.

Will they speak English on the phone?

On 112, yes — according to 112 CV the control room also takes calls in English, French and German. On the local numbers it is not reliable.

I need a report for my insurance.

The Guardia Civil or the national police take it. Take a copy away with you; requesting one later takes time.

Can I volunteer with civil protection?

It is voluntary work; anyone interested should contact the town hall.
