Immigration office

Oficina de Extranjería de Altea

Altea has its own state immigration office — and not just for the town: it covers a large part of the north of the province. Police matters, meaning fingerprints and card issue, are handled at the station in Benidorm.

  2. Check whether you need an appointmentSome matters in Altea are handled without one. For the police station an appointment is always required.
  3. Assemble the documentsThe current list is in the ministry’s information sheets, which change with every reform. Original and copy, always.

Good to know

The office in Altea belongs to the state, not the municipality. It sits in the town but is not part of the town hall: registration and municipal certificates are still obtained there.

Business is conducted in Spanish. If your Spanish is uncertain, bring someone with you or have your documents checked beforehand — service in another language is not guaranteed.

The 2024 reform of the immigration regulations changed several procedures. The ministry’s information sheets are the only reliable guide to what is required today.

Frequently asked questions

So for the NIE, Altea or Benidorm?

Benidorm police station: the NIE is assigned by the police. Altea decides authorisations; it does not issue numbers and cards.

Does the Altea office only serve Altea residents?

No. It is the competent immigration office for a group of municipalities in the north of the province. Which ones exactly is worth confirming on the portal, as the allocation has changed several times.

Can I go without an appointment?

For some matters in Altea, yes. For the police station, never. What is handled without an appointment changes; check first.

How long does a decision take?

It depends on the procedure and the workload. You can check the status online with the file number and a digital certificate.
