Agenda

The fixed points of the Altea year — and, for everything that changes monthly, the way to the right source.

1. What this page is for

Programmes here are published by the month, not by the year. A calendar with specific dates for next year would be wrong by spring — so this page sets out what recurs every year, with a link to whoever keeps the current details.

The exact dates of the patronal fiestas follow the church calendar and shift from year to year. The programme appears a few weeks beforehand.

2. The year at a glance

  • January — Sant Antoni: bonfires and the blessing of animals. The first fiesta of the year and one of the oldest.
  • February or March — Carnival, depending on Easter
  • Spring — Holy Week: processions through the old town, quieter and more solemn than the summer fiestas
  • June — Sant Joan: bonfires on the beach on the shortest night of the year
  • July and August — craft market: evenings on the church square
  • August — Castell de l’Olla: the fireworks fired from the sea off L’Olla beach. The great night of the Altea year, with tens of thousands watching
  • September — Moors and Christians: parades, music and mock battles over several days
  • Autumn — patronal fiestas in honour of the Mare de Déu del Consol, with processions and events across a week
  • December — Christmas market in the centre, with nativity scenes and concerts

3. Every week

  • Tuesday morning — weekly market on the Camí de l’Algar site. No parking there that day. Parking
  • Monday to Saturday, 7:30–14:30 — market hall: fish, meat, fruit and vegetables, with a small café. Avinguda Rei en Jaume I 4. Show on the map
  • Summer evenings — craft market in the old town

4. Concerts, theatre, exhibitions

The Palau d’Altea is the town’s concert and theatre venue. The season runs from autumn to early summer; the programme is published in blocks of a few months on its own site, with advance booking.

Exhibitions and talks run through the Casa de Cultura and the Centre Cultural Juvenil, announced in the municipal calendar. Art in Altea

5. Sport

The local football club plays in the Valencian federation’s leagues. Fixtures and results are there rather than with the municipality — and they change weekly.

Through the year there are also runs, regattas and cycling events, mostly in spring and autumn, announced by the municipality and in the local press. Media

We deliberately publish no individual dates here. They change too fast, and a wrong date is worse than none. The linked sources carry the binding information.
